The 20-year-old singer was signed to Jive Records in 2008 after coming in second to eventual winner David Cook on the show's seventh season, but has now apparently been released from his contract.
According to Gossip Cop, the news comes after the disappointing response to Archuleta's latest album The Other Side of Down, which has sold only 63,000 copies since its release in October 2010.
By comparison, Archuleta's self-titled debut album sold 900,000 copies worldwide following its release at the end of 2008.
It has also been reported that Archuleta has split from management company Wright Entertainment Group.
