"I want to not only maintain the weight I am at now, but better it, by one dress size," Franklin told The AP.
The star will make her return performance in Buffalo, New York, on May 28, followed by the release of her new studio album Aretha: A Woman Falling Out Of Love.

Artists ranging from Christina Aguilera to Florence Welch payed tribute to Aretha Franklin in a performance at last weekend's Grammy Awards.
