The band made the announcement via their official Twitter feed, claiming that they will begin work on new recordings after playing a number of festivals this summer.
"Despite being on a break, The Cribs are not superhuman and still have to eat, therefore they will be playing a handful of summer festival shows," the tweet read, "...before heading into the studio to work on their fifth album."
The band also announced that they will be playing the Saturday night at RockNess Festival in June.
The Cribs' last album Ignore The Ignorant was released in 2009.
