The album has become the first to achieve platinum status on downloads alone, after reaching the 300,000 downloads mark yesterday.
It is just one of three albums to have sold more than a quarter of a million copies digitally, with Kings of Leon's Only By The Night and Florence And The Machine's Lungs being the other two.
Since being released, The Fame has accumulated a total of 2.5 million album sales, as well as producing four number one singles, culminating in a huge 4.8 million single sales for GaGa.
"Congratulations to Lady GaGa for setting another record. In setting this latest landmark, Lady GaGa has further cemented her position in the annals of pop music history," says Official Charts Company managing director Martin Talbot.
"Lady GaGa is the kind of artist who is constantly striving to break new ground and she has done that yet again for album downloads."
GaGa recently premiered her video for current single 'Born This Way', stating that it was "the story about the birth of a new race".
