Flaming Lips and British Sea Power have been confirmed for a live show at the Jodrell Bank observatory.

The bands will be supported by OK Go and Alice Gold at the gig, which takes place on Saturday July 2 near the famous scientific landmark in Lower Withington, Cheshire.

"As well as providing an amazing backdrop the telescope will also be serving a secondary purpose as the world's most incredible projection screen!" a statement read on the Jodrell Bank Live website.

"Throughout the day there will be experiments and workshops along with free access to the new visitor centre - but come evening it's all about the music and one mind-blowing and totally unique show!"

The concert, dubbed 'Transmission 001', will be the first of several taking place throughout the year on an outdoor stage in the shadow of the Lovell telescope at the observatory.
