The 17-year-old iCarly star told Paper Magazine that while she appreciates the Nickolodeon sitcom's success she finds singing to be her most satisfying creative outlet.
"Making iCarly is great, but I've just been doing it for such a long time," Cosgrove said.
She added: "I love music, and it was something I wanted to do but never thought I'd be able to. Then I got to do the theme song for iCarly and it did pretty well, and that opened a lot of doors… It all kind of just fell into place."
Cosgrove also suggested that she looks forward to exploring a variety of career options as she grows older.
"I think about my future all the time, but it's hard because it's always changing," she explained. "I feel like I have a lot of options... It's fine, though, because in the end it's all really up to me."
The 'Dancing Crazy' singer released her first studio album Sparks Fly last year.
iCarly returns with new episode 'iPity The Nevel' on March 19 on Nickelodeon.
