Despite rumours over the past few months that Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor had agreed to join the group, McKagan claimed that there has still been no official decision made.
"There is no status," McKagan told Rolling Stone. "I'm painfully aware of Corey Taylor, I was asked about 1,000 times about it."
McKagan claimed that the bandmembers' busy schedules have so far stopped them getting together to find a proper replacement, although he added that he was a fan of Taylor's music.
"I do think Corey Taylor is probably the brightest dude that has been in front of a mic for a long time," the bassist added. "But saying all that, no, there is no Velvet Revolver singer."
McKagan's memoir It's So Easy (And Other Lies) is due out later this year.
