The song 'Forever Gold' was unveiled as this year's official Comic Relief single last month.
"It wasn't recorded for Comic Relief. We just wanted it to be our next single," band member Max George told the Daily Star.
"Then Richard Curtis got in touch, heard the song, and wanted it for Comic Relief. We said, 'Of course', and that was that."
The boyband are due to start their first UK tour next month. Speaking of preparations for the jaunt, George explained: "It takes longer for us because we're not a dancing band. We have to find ways around the stage but without dancing.
"The production is amazing, and really, we just want to be knackered by the end of it each night. That's the aim."
The band recently admitted that they have had to cut back on drinking before gigs as it affected their performances.
