The 'Rolling in the Deep' singer has managed to stay on top of the album chart for seven consecutive weeks, fending off tough competition from Jessie J, Beady Eye and Elbow.
21 has sold in excess of 100,000 copies every week since its release, giving Adele the top spot and matching a record set by Leona Lewis's Spirit in 2007.
Only two albums have managed to spend more consecutive weeks atop the charts in the 21st century: The Beatles' 1 spent nine weeks at number one in 2000/1 and James Blunt's Back To Bedlam spent eight weeks at the top in 2005, reports Music Week.
After topping both the UK and the US charts, Adele recently admitted that she thought global success "seemed impossible".
