The singer is currently collaborating with Justin Timberlake producer Rob Knox on his first solo album, which is expected to be released this year.
In an interview with Details magazine, Jonas stated that he is looking forward to expressing his own identity as he matures.
"I'm growing up, the fans are growing up," he said.
The star further remarked that he is enjoying the freedom of being able to connect with his fans on a more personal level on his solo debut.
He added: "I've gone through a lot of stuff in my life so far. There are stories I haven't really been able to tell. When you're writing with three people, you wind up with a sound that might be - not average - but, you know, expected."
As a member of the Jonas Brothers, the musician scored two US platinum-selling albums with the band's sophomore self-titled release and 2008's A Little Bit Longer.
Jonas previously admitted that he once attempted to flirt with his brother Kevin's wife Danielle Deleasa.
