The musician and producer made the admission while listing his favourite 13 records for music website The Quietus.
Youth said of the David Bowie-produced LP: "Great atmospheres, amazing production and dynamics that take you by the throat and then seduce you into submission.
"When, as a teenager, I shared a bedsit in Earls Court with Alex Paterson [of The Orb], we had a dansette that would replay the record automatically once it had finished."
He added: "This - and a strategically placed bookshelf - was the only privacy we had if we had a girlfriend staying and wanted a shag.
"This album was a big favourite for that. We would f**k to it, go to sleep to it, and wake up to it the next morning."
Other albums praised by Youth included Public Image Ltd's Metal Box, Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here, Captain Beefheart's Clear Spot and the Blade Runner soundtrack by Vangelis.
Youth recently worked with Paterson and Pink Floyd's David Gilmour on the tenth Orb album, Metallic Spheres.
The Idiot was infamously the record found still spinning on the turntable of Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis when he was found hanged in 1980.
