Lady GaGa leads MTV OMA nominations

Lady GaGa has picked up the most nominations for the first ever MTV O Music Awards, along with Odd Future rapper Tyler the Creator.

The 'Born This Way' star has been nominated for three awards including 'Most Innovative Artist' and 'Must-Follow Artist on Twitter', both of which Tyler also received nominations for.

GaGa also picks up a nomination for 'Favourite Animated GIF', while Tyler the Creator is shortlisted for his remix of Lykke Li's 'Follow Rivers'.

The MTV O Music Awards are due to air via a webcast on April 28. The winners will be chosen by fans, who are able vote through social media services.

MTV hopes the awards can do for digital music what it did for the music video through the introduction of the MTV Video Music Awards back in 1984, reports Billboard.

"Some elements of this will be experimental," said the head of digital media at MTV Music Group, Dermot McCormack. "If there is such a thing as a beta award show, this is it."

Other categories include 'Best Independent Music Blog', 'Best Music Discovery Service' and 'Best Performance Series'.

Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Justin Bieber and Arcade Fire have also been nominated for awards.

Voting for the awards is due to open soon.
