The 'Can A Drummer Get Some' star revealed that DeLonge reached out to him again while he was recovering from a plane crash in 2008, following the band's split in 2004 due to tensions in the group.
When asked how recording for the new Blink-182 album was going, Barker told Gigwise: "It's going really well. I haven't recorded a Blink album in six years, which has gone really fast.
"We were on a hiatus or broke up and then it was Tom who made the first move when I was recovering in hospital from my crash. He wrote a letter and called me and we all started reconnecting after that.
"We kind of saw that we weren't really fighting and not being in a band for a really good reason and I think everybody just wanted to get back into it again."
Barker described recording new material as "exciting", saying that working with Blink feels "new again".
The drummer also revealed that the band's sound has progressed since their 2003 LP Blink-182.
Barker's new single 'Can A Drummer Get Some' is out now in the US and due to be released in the UK on April 17.
