The 'Beautiful Day' band are due to surpass the £340 million ($558m) gross mark set by the Rolling Stones back in 2007.
It is expected that the band's '360' tour will shadow the record by the end of the run in North America on July 30 by grossing an estimated £427m ($700m), reports Billboard.
The tour will have shifted more than 7m tickets across 110 shows, meaning it will also hold the highest-attended tour ever accolade, beating the Stones' record of 6.4m tickets for their 1994-95 tour.
U2 band manager Paul McGuinness has declared that achieving the biggest tour ever is "something we're very proud of having set".
He added: "And to set it with a further 20-plus shows to go on the tour is kind of mind-blowing. It means that it's a record that will probably never be outstripped."
U2 recently revealed that they are working with RedOne on a "futuristic" new sound.
