The 'Rich Girl' star revealed that ten tracks have been completed for the LP, with plans to record a few more.
"The main thing we were trying to do was write really catchy, good songs," she told KIIS-FM's On Air with Ryan Seacrest.
"There's a lot of upbeat songs. It's generally a pretty happy record."
Stefani described the inspiration for the album as "all the music [they] loved" from Depeche Mode to The Cure, as well as hints of reggae and ska.
The singer-songwriter also admitted that she "think[s] [the album is] going to be out this year".
Stefani recently insisted that she always aims to write songs that will have mass appeal, citing valuable advice she once received from Prince.
