The 'Rope' band released their seventh studio album Wasting Light on Monday and have already gained a hefty sales lead over Adele's 21, reports Music Week.
The rock group's LP has accumulated a 23,000 unit lead on the first day of sales.
If Adele manages to retain her number one position, she will match a record set by Bob Marley's Legend album in 1984 when it spent 12 consecutive weeks at the top of the album chart.
Adele's 21 was recently named the most downloaded album on Amazon UK, while it was reported that the songstress' high record sales helped boost the UK music market at the beginning of 2011.
