Bob Geldof to stage Sydney charity gig

Bob Geldof has announced plans to host a special one-off charity show to help raise money for victims of the recent disasters around the world.

The Boomtown Rats frontman will headline the event next month, with all proceeds going towards helping those affected during the tragedies in Australia, New Zealand and Japan.

The Rock and Rebuild concert will be staged at Sydney's Star City Lyric Theatre on May 1.

Other artists confirmed to play at the event are Russell Crowe's wife Danielle Spencer, and former INXS singer Jon Stevens.

The Live Aid organiser will receive an honorary doctorate from Israel's Ben-Gurion University of the Negev next month.
