Prince has confirmed that he and the New Power Generation will hold a series of 21 concerts in Los Angeles starting later this week.

The gigs will kick off with an inaugural performance on April 14 at The Forum in Inglewood, but it has not yet been confirmed if the singer will also perform at other venues during his LA residency.

Ticket prices will be slashed with many seats being priced at $25 (£21.52) in an attempt to make attendance more affordable for fans, according to an official press release.

Prince will discuss the dates while making a rare television appearance on tonight's edition of the TBS talkshow Lopez Tonight.

In 2007, the musician took up residence at London's O2 Arena and was even joined on stage by Elton John to duet on the Beatles' track 'The Long and Winding Road'.

The New Power Generation was formed by Prince in 1991 and has included a revolving selection of musicians such as saxophonist Maceo Parker and the 'Purple Rain' singer's former wife Mayte.

In February, Prince invited Kim Kardashian on stage to dance with him during a similar multi-night stint at New York City's Madison Square Garden.
