Nuttall as Chloe
The singer is 23 and only recorded her first album last year – now she will compete with the world's top artists for the Classical Brits Album of the Year award.
She left the soap in 2004, hoping to try her luck as a soprano.
Nuttall, who played Chloe Atkinson in the show, is delighted her career change is going well. "I'm in shock. I didn't expect this at all," she commented. "It was a real gamble leaving Emmerdale but it seems to have paid off - so far."
Her entry - Best Days - reached number five in the classical album chart after its release last November.
She will find out if she has won the award at a ceremony in London on May 4.
