According to Entertainment Weekly, Bridges plans to collaborate with musician T-Bone Burnett on the forthcoming record.
Burnett penned the music for the Bridges movie Crazy Heart. The actor won an Oscar for playing a country music singer in the 2009 film.
The forthcoming LP will feature new original material as well as covers of tracks by Tom Waits, Bo Ramsey and Greg Brown.
Roseanne Cash and Sam Phillips will also appear on the album, as well as other as-of-yet unannounced musicians.
The still untitled LP, which Bridges started recording in November, will be released on Blue Note this summer.
Bridges recently admitted that he is hoping to record a duet with Sir Elton John.
