The Bajan star revealed that she was to release a "Rih-mix" of the track, which would feature Spears, last week via Twitter.
The new version of the single was then immediately released to iTunes stores globally, managing to enter the top ten in numerous territories.
The newly-achieved number one means that Rihanna has also set a Hot 100 record, reports Billboard.
Rihanna has now managed to gain ten number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 hundred chart in the shortest span between an artist's first and tenth chart topper.
She first topped the chart with 'SOS' on May 13, 2006 and has since reached the summit a further nine times in a time span of four years, 11 months and two weeks, beating a record previously held by Mariah Carey.
It was recently announced that Rihanna leads this year's Billboard Awards nominations, having received 18 nods in total.
The star recently confessed that she feels men are intimidated by her success.
