Wayne's ninth studio album, and his first since being released from prison in November last year, was scheduled for release on May 16, but will now be launched in June.
"He's still perfecting a few things, he's a perfectionist," Young Money president Mack Maine told MTV News. "We also have a huge record that wasn't done yet."
It is believed that the album's extensive list of guest collaborators may have also played a part in the album's delay.
"If you calculate all of that, by the time we would've finished mixing, we wouldn't have met the due date to turn in the album," Maine added.
Maine also confirmed that fans can expect to see the first clip from the video of first single 'If I Die Tonight', featuring Rick Ross, in about two weeks' time.
Lil Wayne will now release Tha Carter IV on June 21.
