The Twitter user in question, James Chapman, caught on to the fact that he had been inadvertently linked to the official Scouting For Girls account and started posting joke updates, which then appeared on the band's official homepage.
Chapman posted comments including: "Oops... turns out Elvis IS dead. Let us know of factual innacuracies in our other songs and we'll write (irritating) corrected version (sic)" and "Working on some more s**t tunes."
Chapman admitted to having been linked to the account shortly after, writing on his own Twitter account: "Scouting for Girls official site links to Twitter account that isnt claimed http://www.scoutingforgirls.com. Its MINE now, lads @SFGofficial."
He has since admitted that the Twitter account takeover was a bit of fun and urged the band's management to contact him.
The Twiiter stream was then swiftly removed from the band's site and changed over to the control of the group, before it reappeared.
Scouting For Girls were recently nominated for an Ivor Novello award, with frontman Roy Stride stating that he was "honoured" to received the nomination.
