The 'By The Way' star, who is currently touring with his instrumental band Chad Smith's Bombastic Meatbats, announced the news in an interview with Rock It Out.
The group recently said that the working title for their new album is Dr Johnny Skinz's Disproportionately Rambunctious Polar Express Machine-head, but when asked if the band had come up with a final title for the LP, Smith responded with "no name".
Of how the recording process has been, he said: "It's been going good. We got lots of songs, we're just choosing the ones that are gonna be on the album. It sounds great."
Smith also praised new guitarist Josh Klinghoffer - who replaced John Frusciante following his departure from the band at the end of 2009 - stating that "he brought a lot to the table, he's an excellent writer".
