Yesterday, it was reported that the musician has decided to enter rehab to quell his long-time battle with addiction.
The band have now announced in an official statement that Sambora will be exiting their current tour in order in order to focus on his health, but will return to Bon Jovi at a later date.
"Our support for Richie is absolute. He is, and will remain, a member of Bon Jovi. Although he will be absent from upcoming shows for the time being, we very much look forward to his healthy return. In the meantime, we will keep our commitment to our fans and continue our tour," Bon Jovi's official release states.
It is not yet known who will replace Sambora on guitar for the remaining dates on the group's current jaunt, which is scheduled to continue this weekend at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.
Sambora has struggled with substance abuse for years. In 2007, he sought treatment at Utah's Cirque Lodge and one year later was picked up by police on DUI charges.
For more than 25 years, Sambora has served as Bon Jovi's lead guitarist and provided memorable riffs on many of the band's most well-known songs including 'Livin' On A Prayer' and 'It's My Life'.
