Vannucci's new outfit have been dubbed Big Talk and will release their self-titled debut album on July 11.
A single, titled 'Getaways', will precede the record's release on May 10.
Vannucci will step out from behind the drums and play other instruments on the album, as well as demonstrating his vocal ability on what is being described as a "rock club-shaped soundtrack to the summer".
The 'Human' star recorded the album between November 2010 and January 2011 in The Killers' Battle Born studios in Las Vegas. Joe Chicarelli (The Strokes) handled production duties, while the record was mixed in London by Alan Moulder (Foo Fighters, U2, The Killers).
Vannucci has also recruited longtime friend Taylor Milne for the album, which led him to form the band Big Talk.
"Taylor really attacks things from a different angle," Vannucci commented in a statement.
"All these really cool leads that you'll hear on the songs are Taylor. We worked on it together, but it's his take, so it's very different. It sounds fresh to me."
Vannucci will also join The Killers for their headline slot at this year's Hard Rock Calling festival.
