Nicola Roberts has revealed that her debut solo single is a "fun record".

The Girls Aloud star is expected to premiere 'Beat of My Drum' at some stage today. Roberts signed a solo deal with Universal last December.

The track, produced by Beyoncé collaborators Major Lazer, has been described by the duo as being "crazy awesome unlikely".

"It's a fun record," Roberts told The Sun. "It was important my first single was different to anything else around. I love that it's a song everyone can sing and dance along to."

The track is the first to be lifted from Roberts's album Cinderella Eyes, which is currently expected in the autumn.

Metronomy frontman Joseph Mount previously suggested that the singer's material will surprise people. He has also revealed that Roberts took inspiration from Robyn and M.I.A during recording sessions.

'Beat of My Drum' will be released on June 5.
