The X Factor winner is apparently looking to capitalise on the buzz surrounding the US version of the show to get himself some blockbuster auditions.
Ward has signed up with actors' agency CAM, who currently has Ray Winstone and Martin Freeman on its books, after being dropped from Simon Cowell's Syco record label last month.
"Shayne feels it's the time to strike. Being linked with X Factor might help him get noticed," a source told The Sun.
The 26-year-old has reportedly already auditioned for the new GI Joe film.
Ward recently insisted that he is feeling "great" about his future following his departure from Syco.
