Smashing Pumpkins to reform this summer

The Smashing Pumpkins have announced that they are currently writing songs for a new album.
The band have been rumoured to be reuniting for a while now, as they have not made an album since 2000. The group's official website made the announcement, but offered no further information apart from the fact that: "No release date has yet been set, but the band plans to begin recording this summer."
It is not yet known who will make up the reformed band though, as lead singer Billy Corgan has had strained relations with former members over the past few years. The last bassist to have played with the band, Melissa Auf Der Maur, told MTV earlier in the year that she would be happy to join the group if it were to reunite.
