During the country's election campaign, Pras posted a message on his Twitter account wherein he endorsed Jean's political opponent Michel Martelly to become the country's next leader.
Jean was eventually disqualified from seeking high office and Martelly would go to win the presidential election.
In a new interview with AllHipHop.com, Pras claimed that he actually had no idea Jean was seeking the presidency until just before his cousin announced his political aspirations.
"My boy Clef was running, and see, I didn't even know about it until like the day of," he said.
His choice to back Jean's primary challenger proved to do significant damage to his relationship with the 'Gone Till November' singer, but he insists that they are on better terms now that the election has passed.
"I put a lot on the line for that, because had Michel not won, and it went the other way around, it would have been pretty bad for me, politically and in a bunch of other ways also," the musician explained.
Pras added: "Now, it's all good but it was very heated, one. And two, at that time, I think [Wyclef] felt a little bit betrayed."
In March, Jean was shot in the hand and briefly hospitalised while attending pre-election events in Haiti. He later described the sensation of a bullet piercing his body as "shock and awe".
