Adele has tallied up a 16th week at the top of the UK album chart with 21.

The 'Turning Tables' singer denied veteran performer Kate Bush her fourth chart-topper by holding Director's Cut to the runner-up spot.

The 'Wuthering Heights' singer's highly-anticipated LP is her tenth UK album chart Top 10 in a career that has spanned over 30 years. She last appeared on the listings in 2005 with Arial, which peaked at three.

Further down the digits, Friendly Fires score today's second highest new entry and their best album chart placing to date with Pala at six, while Chase & Status continue their ascent with No More Idols, which is up two to seven.

Concluding the Top 10 is little-known Dutch jazz singer Caro Emerald and her 2010 album Deleted Scenes From The Cutting Room Floor, which previously peaked at 74 and last week lingered at 140. The astonishing boost is attributed to the popularity of her song 'On A Night Like This', which was recently picked up by a UK radio station.

Also skyrocketing up the charts is Lady GaGa's debut album The Fame, up 22 places to 11 in its 132nd week of release following her show at Radio 1's Big Weekend in Carlisle last Sunday.

The triumphant returns continue further down the listings, with Fleetwood Mac's 1977 album Rumours re-entering at 16 following the prominent use of its tracks in a Glee episode of the same name.

Aside from GaGa, the Big Weekend also benefits recent chart-toppers the Foo Fighters, who zip 16 places to 19 with their Greatest Hits collection, one spot ahead of a new entry from Danger Mouse and Daniele Luppi entitled Rome.

The Top 10 in full:

1. (1) Adele: '21'
2. (-) Kate Bush: 'Director's Cut'
3. (3) Adele: '19'
4. (2) Hugh Laurie: 'Let Them Talk'
