The 'Watercolour' band admitted that they need to take a break before they push forward with their fourth studio album next year, but will then look for unlikely collaborators.
"We need to force ourselves to take a break. We want to enjoy the festivals but we're in danger of working too hard," bassist Gareth McGrillen told the Daily Star.
"We don't want to force the album so I'd say expect it next year. Drum and bass is our last constraint and we're working to go past it. We're going to ignore the tempo and work in different time ranges.
"That way there will be songs that sound a little more dubstep, or rocky."
Speaking about who they would like to work with to broaden their fan base, McGrillen said: "With us it's about working with people we shouldn't work with, so maybe we'll do something with Justin Bieber.
"We had fans who found us getting hits and selling lots of records distasteful. They might have been confused because we started as one thing and changed it up, but they get us again now."
Pendulum's last album Immersion went to number one on the UK album chart in May 2010.
The group have been confirmed for headline slots at this year's Global Gathering and Bestival music events.
