A source has told the New York Post's Page Six that the frequent Glee guest star's talks with the music company - which boasts Kid Rock, Bruno Mars and T.I. among its roster of stars - have cooled after several months of intense discussion.
"Atlantic bosses were very interested, and [Atlantic owner and] Warner chief Lyor Cohen was very supportive," the insider said. "Then the talks halted and the deal fizzled out. There was a rumour that Paltrow wanted $1 million (£620,194) to sign, but that is a ridiculous figure."
The source went on to insist that an agreement between the two parties could still be reached, adding: "Atlantic is still interested in signing her."
When reached for comment, Paltrow's spokesperson suggested that the Academy Award winner is not simply limiting her options to one music label.
"Atlantic was not the only company pursuing her, and she still has not decided if she wants to record an album… [It] is still something she is considering," the rep told the newspaper.
It was reported earlier this month that Paltrow might join the cast of Glee for a series of dates on their summer tour.
