Abba's Bjorn facing unpaid tax demands

Bjorn Ulvaeus is facing demands to cough up unpaid tax on royalties from Abba hits and his musicals.

Authorities said the star paid his earnings into offshore banks from 1999-2003, avoiding $11.58 million in tax – a claim that he denies.

Tax official Merja Classon told a Swedish radio station: "We believe he owns the rights and that he did not give this information in his declarations."

Ulvaeus lawyer Sven Rygaard, however, insists the actions were legal and has launched an appeal. He said: "We are convinced we are right."

The proceeds involved include money from Abba royalties and rights to musicals he wrote with Benny Andersson after the band split.
