The Sheffield-born band, who release their fourth studio album Suck It And See on June 6, explained that the lyrics are a mixture of new observations along with humour and dialogue that features in their previous work.
"I think the new album is a balance between our first three. There's nothing about taxi ranks or anything like that, but there's a bit of the standpoint I had on those early songs and the sense of humour, but also there's a bit of the Humbug stuff which is kind of off in the corners," frontman Alex Turner told BBC Radio 1.
The singer-songwriter also insisted that the band will never "do anything like the first album again", as it "would be impossible" for them to capture their observations of 2006.
Turner also revealed that the group only recorded the tracks that appear on the album and nothing more, saying: "We just recorded those ones. We didn't want to do that thing were you record 20 songs and then narrow it down."
