The 'American Idiot' rockers have kept quiet about the prospect of new material, but frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has now admitted on Twitter that the band have been hard at work and have already created a lot of new songs.
Armstrong said: "OK. Here's the scoop. Green Day has been jamming new songs everyday. There's a tonne of new songs. The direction is fresh and high energy. Feels great.
"I don't want to give away too much, but just know that Me, Mike Dirnt are collaborating and having the best time playing music. And that's not bulls**t!!"
Armstrong appeared in the band's Broadway musical earlier in the year, but ticket sales dropped following his departure and the show was subsequently cancelled.
