The 'Rolling In The Deep' singer postponed five shows earlier this week due to laryngitis but was planning to resume performances on June 4.
However, in an announcement on her official website, it was revealed that "while resting in Los Angeles, Adele met with an Otolaryngology specialist who determined it was imperative that she take the next few weeks to recover with absolute voice rest."
Adele said in a statement: "I'm really frustrated. I was hoping with a week's rest I'd be better to sing again straight away. However, there is absolutely nothing I can do but take the doctor's advice and rest some more. I'm so sorry. See you soon."
The nine newly cancelled shows will be rescheduled at a later date.
Adele fended off competition from Pitbull this week to remain atop the Billboard Hot 100 with 'Rolling In The Deep'.
