The Pallot-penned track appeared on the X Factor contestant's debut album Songs From The Tainted Cherry Tree.
Pallot explained to WOTYOUGOT: "'Put It Back Together Again' I definitely wrote for me. My dad was having major surgery and I couldn't think straight - I was so worried about father.
"'Put It Back Together Again' I wrote when I was waiting for my mum to call me and tell me that my dad had come out of surgery okay. It was the only way I could stop being a headcase in the corner."
She added: "I could never sing that song. I get too choked up. Sometimes I go to sing it and I fall apart. But it really worked for Diana because she had that step of removal. She managed to get the heart, the emotion without over-egging it."
Vickers and Pallot performed 'Put It Back Together Again' as a duet at London's Union Chapel last April.
Pallot also said that she "totally wrote" 'Aphrodite' for Kylie Minogue, but did not know the song would become the title track of her album until listening to it in a playback.
Singer-songwriter Pallot recently claimed that The X Factor is "basically a Cowell money-making machine" and suggested that there should be a greater focus on the contestants.
