The singer, who scooped the 'Collaborative Video of the Year' prize alongside Rascal Flatts at the 2011 CMT Music Awards, told MTV News that he was happy to attend the ceremony as the genre means a lot to him personally.
"I'm really glad to be here," he said while walking the red carpet for the event.
"It's great; it's so many people my mother admires, 'cause she loves country music, and I do too. So it's really great to be here with Rascal Flatts."
Bieber collaborated with Flatts for a recut of 'That Should Be Me' from his Never Say Never: The Remixes album. The video, which features a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the track, beat out fellow nominees including Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow, as well as a song by Crow, Miranda Lambert and Loretta Lynn.
The 17-year-old later described the win as an "incredible honour".
Bieber swapped his famous longer hairstyle for a shorter cut while on the set of the video earlier this year.
