The alternative-rock trio have been working on the follow-up to 2009's Only Revolutions since January and have now explained that they know how the record will run.
''We know what kind of album we're going to make. We know how it's going to play out, the structure of it," frontman Simon Neil told BBC Newsbeat.
"It's just a case of getting it done. We're champing at the bit. Bands have to keep moving forward. Any band that sits for a few years not writing songs is in trouble."
Biffy Clyro are expected to release the record towards the end of the year following a summer of shows, which includes an appearance at Glastonbury on June 24 and Ibiza Rocks on August 24.
