The ex-Savage Garden man told WOTYOUGOT that the follow-up to 2007's This Delicate Thing We've Made would be released "towards the end of the year".
Hayes said: "I'm touring a really tiny number of dates this year. I'm doing just four dates in the UK in October.
"I'm doing two dates in America - an LA and New York show - and then in Australia I'm doing just Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne in November. All of that will be announced in a couple of weeks, but that's what's happening."
Hayes added of his new album: "It's very strange to talk about it, because it's been finished for a while and it's been locked up for a while. It feels a bit like I'm in a confessional talking about it.
"I love it. It's a big fat pop record, I guess. With a focus on songwriting. It's really personal and heavy."
Hayes also quipped: "The plan on this record really was to try to connect with people that, if I'm completely honest, the people that thought I was possibly dead - or retired."
The 'Me, Myself and I' singer recently complained about the way in which the media depicts gay people.
