The alternative hip-hop collective - created by Blur member Damon Albarn and comic book artist Jamie Hewlett - have already worked with fellow artists Snoop Dogg, Shaun Ryder and Ike Turner in the past, but now they could be heading towards a collaboration with former Beatle McCartney, reports The Sun.
Talking about plans to collaborate, McCartney explained: "We have kind of talked - nothing serious but I like what they do. It's got near a couple of times but we never had the time."
A source has now revealed that a potential duet has been on the cards for a while, saying: "Damon originally brought up the idea of doing something with Gorillaz at the Q Awards and they have been trying to sort something since.
"It never worked out on the last album, Plastic Beach, but things are looking good for something together in the future."
McCartney is currently on a promotional tour for the re-release of his McCartney and McCartney II albums.
Gorillaz unveiled a new cartoon member at the beginning of the year.
