Nas has said that he hopes to recall the bygone era of his youth with new single 'Nasty'.

The song - which serves as the first release from the rapper's forthcoming Life is Good LP - details life in the late '80s and early '90s in Nas's native Queens, New York.

Nas told MTV News: "I came up in a great era, so I'm always gonna live with that and that's always gonna live inside of me.

"It's relevant today more than it's ever been. A lot of people may lose their footing in the music game and stuff, but you know, it's always important to remember who you are and how you got here."

Nas went on to claim that the track is also an attempt to return to hip hop's rougher roots, adding: "Hip-hop got so big that it's important to open it back up, that real s**t.

"No diss to what nobody else is doing, but it's important to open this real s**t back up."

Nas recently described Life is Good - which will include collaborations with Mobb Deep and Odd Future member Frank Ocean - as "music for survivors" and said that the record reflects his newfound positive attitude.
