Calvin Harris has revealed that he tests his new material by playing it through speakers on his toilet floor.

The Scottish DJ, who is currently number one in the midweek singles chart with 'Bounce', admitted to playing his new songs on his bathroom floor to ensure that the tracks' bass is loud enough.

"DJs don't have to worry about playing my music because I always test my tracks a million times to make sure they go off," Harris told the Daily Star.

"On the toilet is the best listening time. Put your computer on the bathroom floor and it amplifies the sound."

The 27-year-old producer also expressed his surprise that US singer Kelis agreed to feature on his new single.

"When I wrote 'Bounce' I wanted a female voice," he explained.

"I thought about getting Kelis but then thought, 'Nah, she'll never do it'. But after a few phone calls I was amazed that she said yes. We even had some melon together."

However, the singer-songwriter did not have praise for X Factor boyband JLS, making a jibe about the group's consistent sound.

"All I do is make music. It's not work for me. I mean it's not like gutting a fish.

"So it's important I make an album of variety. All of the songs have to sound different for me otherwise I may as well go and make JLS songs."

Harris has previously stated that he will not be singing on his new album after insisting that he is "not cut out for that role".
