Boyzone member Shane Lynch has attempted to play down reports of the group's 'split' with long-term manager Louis Walsh.

The X Factor judge was said to have told the boyband to separate last week after disappointing ticket sales for their latest tour and Ronan Keating's cheating scandal dampened their recent comeback.

"Louis has told Boyzone they're finished," a source claimed. "Ronan doesn't want to accept it but without Louis they have no chance."

However, Lynch today told The Sunday Mirror that Walsh had been prone to making similarly over-dramatic statements throughout Boyzone's entire career.

"No, Boyzone are not splitting up," he claimed. "That's just Louis being his usual self. It's all news to us. He's been saying that he's been leaving since 1993. I wouldn't listen to any of those rumours."

On the group's future, Lynch added: "As far as me and the boys are concerned we want to get the next album done by September."
