Katy Perry could match a record set by Michael Jackson with her new single 'Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)'.

Perry has amassed over 34 million views of the song's video on YouTube, as well as shooting into the top five on the US Hot 100 last week.

If she manages to secure the number one position on the US singles chart, she will become the first female artist in Billboard's history to have five number one singles from one album.

Perry's previous singles from her Teenage Dream LP - 'California Gurls', 'Teenage Dream', 'Firework' and 'E.T.' - have all hit the top spot at some point over the past 12 months.

The only other artist to achieve the feat is Michael Jackson with his 1987 record Bad, which spawned number one singles 'I Just Can't Stop Loving You', 'Bad', 'The Way You Make Me Feel', 'Man In The Mirror' and 'Dirty Diana'.

Perry's 'Last Friday Night' is currently gaining momentum through digital sales and radio play in the US following the premiere of the video, which includes cameos from Rebecca Black, Darren Criss and Hanson among others.

The Californian-born performer recently set another US chart record when she remained in the Billboard Hot 100's Top 10 for over 52 weeks with one of her tracks.
