David Bowie has agreed to curate a new music festival, "High Line", in New York in 2007.

Bowie recently revealed that he intends to take a year out from the music industry because he was "fed up" and needed to take a break. However, he will now be both curating and appearing in the festival next May.

The event will be held in neighbourhoods underneath the High Line, a public park being created on top of an abandoned elevated railway line on Manhattan's West Side.

It is due to last 10 days and will take place at street level along with official gigs in neighbouring venues.

Bowie said of his role as curator: "I've been particularly excited about seeking out emerging artists and giving them a place in a festival that will also feature some very well-known names."
