The movie, which uses the band's 1990 Spike Island show as its backdrop, is holding auditions in Manchester this weekend for "local lads" between the ages of 16 and 21.
A press release states that no acting experience is necessary at the "informal, friendly and fun" auditions, which take place at the city's Aurora Hotel between 10am and 4pm.
Spike Island, which revolves around an unsigned band of five teenage boys from a council estate in Manchester, was written by 24 Hour Party People actor Chris Coghill.
Mat Whitecross (Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll) will be directing the project.
