Despite recently turning down an opportunity to star in a Jimi Hendrix biopic, the 21-year-old singer-songwriter has admitted that he is looking to pursue a career in acting during his hiatus from recording music.
"Future History is my main focus right now, it's the greatest accomplishment of my life so far," Derulo told MTV about his decision to turn down the Hendrix film.
"I really wanted to make sure it gets the exposure it deserves. It has to be heard by everybody. After this album, I will dive full-throttle into movies for a while. I will ultimately take a break from music."
Derulo added: "I just really want to continue on the same intensity of work ethic, I don't want to slow now. I'm 21 years old and I feel like this era and a few years to come are my prime years, so I want to utilise them."
Derulo recently topped the UK singles chart with his track 'Don't Wanna Go Home'.
The electronic hip-hop star has described his upcoming album as "far different" from his self-titled debut, which was released back in 2010.
