The hip-hop duo - consisting of Andre 3000 and Big Boi - are currently finishing up solo projects, but plan to record the follow-up to 2006's Idlewild ready for release next year.
"Outkast are on track to release a new album by early next year. Both Dre and Big are working on solo projects; they want those out by the end of 2011," a source told HipHopWired.
Big Boi told Radio 1's Zane Lowe last year that an Outkast record "is brewing", but didn't divulge any further and said the information is "top secret".
Andre 3000 recently co-wrote and featured on a track for Beyoncé's new album 4 titled 'Party'.
